So, you are ready to make the big dreams you have for your home a reality. Congratulations! Home renovations can be a really fun way to completely customize your space, install some needed upgrades, expand your space, and add value to your home. If this is your first go at home renovations, you may be a little lost on where to start (other than you Pinterest page). Below, our team of experts here at Redwood Homes Inc. have created a beginner’s guide to home renovations. Ready to get started?

If this is your first go at home renovations

  • Define your budget. Sometimes, homeowners jump into home renovations without a clearly defined budget first. This is essential. Identify how much you can afford to spend and (the hardest part) stick to it. We are not saying do not make your home into the home of your dreams; just make sure you can afford it.
  • Break it down. You may only be looking to renovate one room, but if you are doing more than one room, we recommend breaking it down room by room. This makes home renovations a bit more manageable. Once you have done this, break down the individual rooms by section. For example, if you are renovating a bathroom maybe first start with planning all of the details for the vanity. After that is complete, move on to planning all details for the shower, and so on.
  • Take and save pictures. Pictures are very helpful to get to your end goal. It can be challenging to get to the tile store and remember that one tile that you saw that one time in that bathroom you loved. Document anything and everything that speaks to your design preferences. Thanks to smart phones and Pinterest boards, this should be relatively easy.
