BANFF, February 23, 2004 – The 2003 National SAM Awards were presented today at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) National Conference in Banff, Alberta.
The National SAM Awards recognize excellence in new homes and renovation design, innovative technology and construction techniques, and outstanding marketing and sales activities. The competition is open to all new home builder, renovator and developer members of the CHBA. All entries are reviewed by an independent panel of judges selected from across the country.
“The National SAM Awards is the Canadian Home Builders’ Association’s premier new homes, home renovations, sales and marketing competition,” said Jim Thomson, President of the CHBA. “The calibre of the entries from across Canada for the 2003 National SAM Awards was exceedingly high. Winning a SAM Award is a tremendous achievement.”
Grand SAM Award
Concert Properties Ltd of Vancouver won the coveted Grand SAM Award, presented to the CHBA builder member for outstanding performance in both the building and marketing of a single project, based on the results of the New Home Awards and a minimum of three Marketing Awards categories. Concert Properties Ltd. won for its project, “The O’Keefe”.
Marketing Excellence Award
Mission Shores Developments Ltd. of Kelowna, BC won the Marketing Excellence Award. It was presented to the CHBA builder member whose single project combines the best overall aspects of professional marketing, advertising, promotion, site-merchandising and sales presentation. The award was for the project, “Mission Shores 1”.
Community Development Award
The Community Development Award, recognizing members’ achievements in creating attractive, exciting and innovative communities, was presented to Hopewell Residential Communities of Calgary for “Elbow Valley”.
New Home Awards – Custom
For custom homes, Mike Hennigar’s General Construction of Shelburne County, Nova Scotia won the award for best single-detached home under 2,200 square feet for “Butler’s Estates Model Home”. Redwood Homes Inc. of Collingwood, Ontario won for best single-detached home between 2,200 and 3,500 square feet for “Muncaster”.
Windemere Custom Homes of Toronto took top honours in the custom home, single-detached, over 3,500 square feet category for “Chateau on the Ridge”.
New Home Awards – Production
In the production home categories, Beattie Homes Ltd. of Calgary won in the single-detached under 1,500 square feet category for “The Oasis 1”. Rawlings Homes of London won for best single-detached between 1,500 to 2,200 square feet for its project, “Drayton II”
Morrison Homes of Calgary won the production home, single-detached, over 2,200 square feet award for “The Amherst”.
New Home Awards – Multi-family
In the multi-family housing project categories, Cochren Homes Limited of Oakville, Ontario won in the four storeys or less category for “Harbourwest Townhouses”, while Concert Properties Ltd. of Vancouver won in the over four storeys category for its project, “The O’Keefe”.
Home Renovation Awards
Solution Renovations of Coquitlam, British Columbia took the Home Renovation Awards in the any room and addition categories for “Cadero Project”. Cochren Home Limited of Oakville, Ontario was awarded top honours for kitchen renovations.
The award for Best Whole House Renovation was presented to A & H Renovations of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia for “Crosby”.
Other Awards
The American Standard Award of Sales Excellence, recognizing individual achievement in new home sales, was awarded to Michael DeAngelis of Brant Star Development Ltd. (Coldwell Banker Homefront Realty) in Brantford, Ontario.
Six Marketing Awards, recognizing excellence in advertising and sales, were also presented. A complete list of National SAM Award winners for 2003 follows this release.
The National SAM Awards – presented by American Standard – was one of the highlights of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association’s 61st National Conference. The CHBA is the voice of Canada’s residential construction industry. Membership is made up of new home builders, renovators, developers, trade contractors, apartment owners and managers, building material manufacturers and suppliers, mortgage lenders and other professionals in the housing sector.
